[Singapore, 26th February 2025] –  The Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS) and PACE Canada Aerospace & IT (PACE) have officially entered into a collaboration agreement to advance research and development in the field of competency-based training and assessment for maritime professionals. This partnership leverages both organizations' expertise to explore the application of deep learning and artificial intelligence in maritime training

CEMS has built up extensive knowledge in competency assessment tools aimed at optimizing efficiency and effectiveness in maritime training. Similarly, PACE, through its own R&D initiatives, has deep expertise in the training domain, particularly in the deployment of AI-driven analytics for simulation-based training in the aerospace industry.

The collaboration focuses on a research project that will examine the feasibility of utilizing machine learning algorithms to enhance competency-based training and assessment through simulators. Central to this initiative is the integration of PACE’s InstuctIQ training analytics platform to provide data-driven insights and performance assessments. Furthermore, the project will explore the application of Generative AI Large Language Models (LLMs) to provide personalized recommendations in maritime simulator training.

Through this collaboration, we aim to enhance the existing data-driven framework by gaining deeper insights with the expertise provided by PACE Canada Aerospace & IT (PACE),” said Mr. Daniel Zhang, CEMS Centre Director. “In addition, the pure AI driven approach coupled with generative AI-powered training recommendations, could potentially revolutionize the training assessment for the maritime industry.”

Adolfo Klassen, Head of AI Training Solutions at PACE Canada Aerospace & IT added, “This partnership underscores our commitment to driving innovation in maritime education. Through AI-powered insights and adaptive training methodologies, we aim to equip trainees with the skills and competencies required for the evolving maritime sector.”

The research project marks a significant step toward modernizing maritime training through technology-driven solutions, ultimately enhancing the quality and effectiveness of training programs worldwide.
